As millions over the globe have to self-isolate to limit the spread of coronavirus, an unexpected surge in free time is leaving many people thinking of things to do during the lockdown. In some cases, this can be a fantastic experience, especially for those used to spending most of their time outside! The schools have shut, and many of us are working from home. It means that we’re consuming a lot of time with our family. While couples can use the time to reconnect with some fun activities like redecorating the bedroom, living room, while the kids are home-schooling, there is enough of time to consume & make the quarantine period a rational one!

1) Don’t Panic:

First and foremost, even WHO advised everyone is- not to panic. Though it is an outbreak of the pandemic coronavirus, we should not panic. Instead, develop the habit of washing hands frequently, take regular breaks, and sanitize your hands and stay home to be safe! Avoid going to the crowded places and maintain social distancing.

2) Redecorate your home-

Bored of seeing the identical old seating/dining arrangements, day in, day out? With this lockdown, this may be an excellent time to rejig the decor and give your home a vivid new look. Replace the curtains, move your furniture, chairs and couches around the house to try out new sequences. 

3) Read a book-

If you favour only to read a book when you’re lying or having some free time, why not dig out an old pick? You could yet download a new book for your Kindle. Maybe, the puzzle to getting through these times all in one piece is wrapped in one of those books lying on your bookshelf unread for the highest time! 

4)  Grab your TV/Mobile for that Netflix series or some movies-

Most of us will be watching a lot more TV than usual. So this one is not an innovative idea. Despite, you can get much over popcorns & snacks, put a movie on and enjoy relaxing at home! 

5) Stay Fit, Be Healthy-

Worried about stacking on the weights being stuck indoors? You can now download an exercise video on YouTube or watch some videos which have aerobics, Zumba, yoga, pilates etc. There are loads of workouts online to pick from as well as motivation to get fit. Be productive during this coronavirus outbreak to uphold your heart health, muscle strength and flexibility. It is suitable for your mental health too!

6) WHO recommendations if working from home-

 Be good to yourself to be determined during working from home:

-Regularly check your sitting position while working from home

-Break up your sittings habits and stand up while working on the phone or watching TV.

7) Do cooking into a fun session-

This is the most significant time to give some lessons to your kids. Learning how to cook is an important life skill. Most kids love cake, so why not make their desired cake or cookies! There are many recipes for easy cakes and cookies online that you can watch. Getting your child occupied in activities such as these will keep them engaged for a while!

8) Indulge in growing a home garden-

Not only do plants make your home more beautiful, but they also purify the air. Veggies such as tomatoes, eggplants, pumpkins, chillis, capsicum and okra are all fairly easy to grow at home as are herbs such as mint, lemongrass, basil, mustard, coriander, garlic, ginger, or even greens, such as spinach, etc.

9) Meditation-

Finally, let’s round off with something therapeutic. Meditation can help decrease stress, curb anxiety and improve health and well-being –which is most important thing ever right now especially for the senior citizens.
